In the bestselling novels of suspense master David Morrell, fear is the main subject. But Morrell himself had never known genuine terror until he watched his 15-year-old son wage a heroic but doomed struggle with cancer. This is one father’s powerful and unforgettable story of fierce love, impenetrable loss, and an unexpected, breathtaking encounter with the miraculous. Ultimately, Fireflies is a tribute to the undying human spirit that has already given new hope to enthralled and grateful readers around the world.
David wrote this account for himself, but to his surprise, his candid portrait of grief turned out to help other people in grief or else the friends of those in grief. His discussions about panic attacks as well as the “could have, should have” syndrome and the stress within marriages after a child’s death are some of the reasons that David was asked to deliver several keynote speeches to national conferences of The Compassionate Friends, the world’s largest grief organization—for the parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends of children who have died.

Fireflies A Father Tale of Love and Loss eBook David Morrell Reviews
Excellent writer and personally involved since he was the father of a 15 year old young man who died. This author and dad went to the edge with his son and he taught me how to be with someone who is dying. Especially significant since it is a man's way through grief.
This is the second time reading this. I recently lost my best friend and father to my two small children. I gained peace from reading Fireflies, knowing personally the loss David endured then and in 2009. I felt a sense of kindred spirits as I read this again. I pray that Bob been transformed into a new creation and is pain free.
This book will break the heart of any David Morrell fan as he bears his soul with the story of his son's death. I love this man and I love his work. I wish him all the best. I hope he knows the dove was his son letting him know he is okay. Souls don't die.... they will meet again.
A bit hard to get into but once in over too soon
We just lost a son and David Morrell has the words to describe what we are going through. I found some comfort in his suggestions for coping with the tradgedy. You cope, but you don't get over it. A person gets sick of hearing that people think that time will heal your sorrow--they have no idea of what they are talking about and their words are insulting. David gets it and unfortunately firsthand. I had the fortune of hearing David himself describe Fireflies and why he wrote the book shortly after he wrote it. David, Donna, and I were guests for dinner one evening at a friend's home, who lived just outside of Sante Fe at the time. Until now, I was afraid to read the book after he described it many years ago, but I am glad I remembered. Thank you, David.
This book is written by an incredible author. I have always read David morrell's work with great pleasure. I lost my first born child and suffered from many of the things that the author did. I also published a book about my experiences so I know how healing this can be. David is very brave to allow his pain and hurt to be seen. It is not an easy thing to do. Thank you for writing this book. It has really touched me and reminded me that I am not alone.
Really a good story with a mix of what is real and made up. Hard to know which is which until author explains at end of book what's true life and not. I feel his struggle with faith and think many of us have similar ones. Even in the struggle many of us walk on the faith side, even when bad things happen, we believe in the goodness of God. I can relate to the authors love for his children, and in that sense , I can relate deeply to his joy and his pain.
